No matter where you are in the U.S., coronavirus isn't far away. Over 11 million cases of COVID-19 have now been reported in the U.S., with the most recent million coming in under a week. The virus is spreading more rapidly across the nation than it has at any time since the pandemic began.

At least 45 states have reported more new infections this past week compared to the previous week, according to Johns Hopkins University.

"We have this firestorm of coronavirus all across the country," emergency medicine physician Dr. Leana Wen said. "It's not one or two hotspots, the entire country is a hotspot of coronavirus infection."

Nationwide, at least 11 million people in the U.S. have been infected with coronavirus, and at least 246,000 people have died — including 1,266 new deaths reported on Saturday alone.

  • Joe Biden’s scientific advisers will meet with vaccine makers in coming days as the presidential transition remains stalled because of President Donald Trump’s refusal to acknowledge that he lost the election.
  • One of the scientists behind the experimental coronavirus vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer said Sunday that he was confident that it could halve the transmission of the virus, resulting in a “dramatic” curb of the virus’ spread.
  • British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is self-isolating after being told he came into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Sunday.
