Brian Bantley was a bit surprised to spot a new store as he drove along Piney Forest Road several days ago – national flooring chain Lumber Liquidators.
“We’re looking for flooring,” said Bantley, of Danville. “I saw the store on Wednesday and they said it would open Friday, so we came to check it out.”
It’s the newest option local shoppers have for choosing flooring and its located in Kings Plaza.
While the Toano, Virginia-based chain bills itself as “the largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring in North America,” store manager Carey Carlton was quick to point out that other options include laminate, cork, bamboo and vinyl that look like wood.
“The vinyl is one of our top categories now,” Carlton said. “It’s waterproof and clicks together … vinyl has come so far.”

The store also stocks anything a do-it-yourselfer or contractor will need to install the flooring, from tools and underlayment to adhesives.
They can also provide moldings and stairs to match whatever flooring a customer chooses.
And, if the job is too daunting for the do-it-yourselfer, the store offers delivery, installation and financing.
Carlton said the closest stores to the Danville area other than this newest site are in Lynchburg, Salem and Greensboro, North Carolina. Overall, the company has about 390 locations in the U.S. and Ontario, Canada.
The warehouse area of the store will stock the most popular items, which Carlton admits will take a while to determine.
“We have plenty of warehouse space, but it will take a few months to figure out what we want to stock,” he said.
Sarah Dodson, the store manager from the Lynchburg store, was in Danville for the grand opening Friday.
“This seems like a good location,” Dodson said, looking around the store. “In front, we have samples of what we have and in back there’s a warehouse. If we’re out of stock on anything, it can be here in less than a week.”
The store will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
