Local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance volunteers gathered May 11 for an appreciation dinner. The IRS-sponsored program offers free tax services for filers who had 2025 income of $69,000 or less. Pittsylvania County Community Action, Inc. has been sponsoring this free program since 2004. This past filing season, the local team consisted of six greeters and 15 tax preparers who completed IRS training and certification. These individuals contributed over 2,700 volunteer hours while preparing more than1 ,360 tax returns at no cost to clients. Residents may still have current and previous years’ tax returns prepared for free in June by calling 434-228-3079 to schedule an appointment.
