The Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism (DOEDT) announced the graduation of 28 professionals from the OSHA 30 General Industry Safety and Health Training series, hosted in partnership with GENEDGE.
The four-part program was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, evaluate and control workplace hazards in accordance with OSHA’s general industry standards. Training covered a range of critical topics including worker protection, recordkeeping, electrical safety, machine guarding, hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens and heat stress.
Kelvin Perry, assistant director of DOEDT, recognized the significance of the program and the participants’ accomplishment. “This training represents a new opportunity from the City of Danville and one we have not offered before,” said Perry. “We were encouraged by the diversity of participants and their commitment to completing such a rigorous program. Their dedication strengthens not only their individual skillsets, but also the safety and resilience of our local workforce. We are proud to support our businesses in meaningful ways that contribute to their growth.”

“I’m grateful to the Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism for partnering with GENEDGE and hosting this training,” said Bert Eades, business services director. “This topic is personal to me because it equips local businesses with practical steps to reduce the risk of workplace illnesses and injuries. In my opinion, creating safe workplaces is the most critical responsibility any leader has because when people feel safe, they’re more productive and feel better about where they work. That benefits not just individual organizations, but the entire Southside Virginia community.”
Participants who completed all four training days received the OSHA 30-Hour General Industry completion card issued by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Drew Bailey, sales and operations manager of the Danville Hotel Collection and OSHA participant, reflected, “I greatly appreciated GENEDGE and the City of Danville for investing in and hosting this important OSHA 30 training opportunity for professionals across our region. The knowledge shared throughout the program is invaluable and I believe it will create a lasting impact by helping leaders return to their organizations with a stronger understanding of workplace safety and a renewed focus on protecting their teams. The biggest lesson I am bringing back to work is viewing operational safety through a new lens, being more proactive in identifying potential hazards and creating an environment where both team members and guests can operate safely each day.”
